Now in its 10th year, the National Family Medicine Board Review Course is a 41-hour AMA PRA/ AAFP approved course through the joint sponsorship by the Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine, the Journal of Family Practice, and The Center for Medical Education, Inc. The National Family Medicine Board Review course is a total immersion “boot-camp” in the factual databases of family medicine. At the conclusion, participants, through repetition, will have learned the key information needed to pass family medicine certification and recertification examinations.
The goal of the course is to teach the core database of family practice and enable participants to retain what is taught. The course developers know the difference between a standard review lecture and information that participants learn and retain, especially when it comes to providing the essential information needed to pass an examination. The NFMBR Course is exclusively focused on this goal and focuses on material likely to be covered in the exams -- no “fluff” or “nice to know” material to distract from retention of core material. It is not a general review course. It is not intended as a course for clinicians who want to transition into family medicine. Its uniqueness is the result of this clear focus.
The target audience for this course was developed for physicians who are preparing to take the family medicine certification or recertification examination, as well as clinicians wishing for a comprehensive review of the core content of the family medicine database.
After completing the National Family Medicine Board Review self study program, participants will be able to:
This enduring material activity, the National Family Medicine Board Review, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 41 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP accreditation begins February 1, 2010. Term of approval is for two years from this date with option for yearly renewal.
Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.
